Terroristic Threats: Man Nabbed For Assault, More On Long Island, Police Say

A Long Island man was arrested for harassment, assault, and more after police said he made threats at two different places, including one church.

On Tuesday, Aug. 15 at approximately 1:05 p.m. in South Farmingdale, Nassau County Police reported that Deer Park resident Besart Astafa entered the Medwell Spa located at 34 Hempstead Turnpike.

Once there, Astafa, age 28, allegedly began to make terroristic threats, the specifics of which were not released by officials.

Customers were able to intervene, restraining Astafa until police arrived and placed him into custody.

An investigation revealed that the suspect matched the description of a similar crime, which happened in Plainview on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

In that incident, Astafa is said to have gone into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 160 Washington Avenue.

There, he purportedly assaulted a church employee and again made terroristic threats. He had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Astafa has previously been arrested for storming naked through a mosque in Farmingdale, throwing punches, and returning to the mosque the next day after he was released from custody.

For the most recent incident, Astafa is charged with:

  • Making a terroristic threat
  • Harassment, two counts
  • Criminal mischief
  • Menacing

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
